The Battle for Wesnoth

The Battle for Wesnoth is a free turn based strategy game with simplistic graphics and minimalistic rules. This, however does not stop Wesnoth from being a great game. The AI can be challenging, There is a decent balance between the factions(not so much with the Drakes however), and the sprites while simple, are very well drawn.Gameplay consists of two or more factions fighting to complete an objective (which more often than not is destroy all enemy units) on a hexagonal grid map. You start off the battle with your starting unit/s inside a fortification. Your leader unit (denoted by the golden crown at the base of the unit’s health bar) will have the job to produce more units which will be very much needed, but in order to produce units, you need gold. Gold can be acquired by claiming the various villages scattered around the map. Claiming a village will yield you a bit of gold at the start of each turn.

Combat is really straight forward, All you do is click the unit you want to attack, then click the guy you want to attack, and then choose your weapon. Afterwards the units will use their attack/defend sprites and move back and forward and hit each other a few times. However there are a few variables that can effect the outcome of the battle such as the terrain the units are standing on, what time of day it is, and what abilities the units fighting have.

The Battle for Wesnoth has a couple different campaigns that detail major plot points in the land of Wesnoth. The Campaigns differ in difficulty ranging from idiotically easy to impossibly hard, thankfully however you can adjust the difficulty of the campaign before you start it.

Sadly the game has tremendous loading times, and while the music is nice, it can get annoying waiting for your game to load for five minutes. but overall The Battle for Wesnoth is a great game that is well worth your download.

Sorry about that, I wrote this just before I went to sleep so I didn’t really bother checking how it looked when I was done.
